Even though I can buy a wreath for about $5 at a craft store, I've always enjoyed making my own. Because I rent, I feel unsure about cutting off branches, etc. in my landlord’s yard. Instead, I find my twigs and treasures on walks through my neighborhood in piles of yard waste. I have found some most interesting twigs and berries that way. And…I'm recycling!

Drew. Great point! I used to live in the big city, so this will be a fun brainstorm - I already have some ideas. We'll get back to you soon.

What would you suggest to someone who lives in an urban setting? I live in Los Angeles, and my back yard is a concrete patio. We have Griffith Park, the beach, and lots of other nearby nature getaways, but I'm unsure of the rules - I'm not sure if I can remove things like bird's nests and pine cones.

I love making my own decorations for the holidays, so how does a city-dweller forage?
